FOR WILD SALMON

A partnership between ASF, NASF, and the people of Greenland — fishers, hunters, communities, and government — working together for the future of wild Atlantic salmon.

EXPLORE THE PROGRAM

Why Greenland

Every wild Atlantic salmon that survives to adulthood — whether it hatched in a river in Québec, Scotland, Norway, or Maine — swims through Greenlandic waters to feed before it can return home to spawn.

What happens here decides whether salmon populations recover across the whole North Atlantic. That is why this work cannot be done from outside Greenland. It has to be done with Greenland.

Four ways we work

Sustainable Fishery

Supporting the fishers and hunters who report their catch and help keep the harvest within safe, agreed limits.

Science & Knowledge

Studying salmon in Greenlandic rivers and coastal waters, together with the communities who know them best.

Education

Sharing what we know about the salmon’s life cycle and why Greenland matters worldwide — and learning from Greenlandic knowledge in turn.

Habitat

Helping protect the places salmon need, on the land and in the water, for the long term.

"

Real partnership is shown through delivery, not promises. ASF and NASF have worked alongside Greenlandic fishers and government since the early 1990s, and are now building a broader, longer-term program — designed and governed with Greenland from the outset.
